I don't remember too much about the ceremony when I graduated from Art Center In 1980. I think like many of the other graduates I was still trying to catch up on sleep. Our commencement speaker was Paul MacCready. In 1977 he led a team that successfully designed the first human powered aircraft capable of controlled and sustained flight. I remember one sentence from his speech. He said, "A good designer should be able to design anything from a spoon to a city."
I suppose I have been trying to accomplish that ever since.
